Google has acquired a massive trove of operational and transactional data from bankrupt Spirit Airlines for $10 million to train its artificial intelligence models and improve its products.

Google has secured a vast repository of corporate and operational data from the bankrupt Spirit Airlines, winning a bankruptcy auction with a $10 million bid. The acquisition, first reported by Bloomberg Law, provides the technology giant with an enormous dataset spanning decades of airline operations. The cache includes 100 million emails, 500 million messages, and internal communications from Microsoft Teams, alongside extensive records covering revenue, flight operations, marketing, personnel, and project management.
Beyond communication logs, the purchase delivers highly technical assets to Google's AI development teams. This includes 30 million lines of program code, software development data, and various proprietary software models and algorithms. Crucially for training predictive systems, the dataset also features pricing information from 7.2 billion competing flights and records of approximately 7.5 billion passenger transactions.
