Anthropic has pledged $150 million over three years to support the federal Genesis Mission, a government initiative designed to accelerate technological and scientific discovery using artificial intelligence. Announced at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy’s Science: A New Golden Age Summit in Washington, DC, the commitment builds on a partnership with the US Department of Energy initiated last December. The expanded program will bring the startup's Claude AI technology to more than 15 federal agencies, including NASA, the National Institutes of Health, and the National Science Foundation.

Over the next three years, Anthropic will allocate Claude, Claude Code, and API credits to several hundred individual research projects under the Genesis Mission umbrella. The company will also deliver hands-on technical support, training, and onboarding to help participating scientists integrate these systems into their workflows, particularly for federal agencies initiating their first projects. Collaborative efforts will center on core national science priorities, including breakthroughs in fusion energy and quantum computing.

This initiative expands Anthropic's growing footprint within the scientific software ecosystem. The company previously introduced Claude Science, a specialized workbench designed to integrate commonly used research tools, and distributed 10,000 free and discounted Claude seats to academic investigators. Furthermore, Anthropic offers compute grants through its AI for Science program and is currently testing the Model Hardware Standard, an open framework designed to let autonomous AI agents safely control physical laboratory instruments.

For practitioners across government labs, this influx of resources provides direct access to state-of-the-art language and coding assistants calibrated for specialized research. By pairing software credits with structural frameworks like the Model Hardware Standard, the investment aims to reduce technical friction for agency scientists applying AI to foundational science challenges.
